Long Island DSA is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend and co-chair of the Healthcare Equity Working Group, Mariana Pineda.
Mariana was a dedicated organizer and a steadfast advocate for Long Island’s most vulnerable. She demonstrated a profound commitment to solidarity, consistently showing up for others and helping to shape our chapter’s culture of mutual aid, compassion, and collective responsibility.
Her ability to bring people together and foster meaningful connections touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Mariana was a revolutionary; her vision of a more just and inclusive world guided her work and inspired all of us.
We extend our deepest condolences to all those whose lives she touched. Her absence will be deeply felt throughout our chapter and across Long Island.
We ask members and community partners to respect the privacy of Mariana’s loved ones and to refrain from speculation at this time. We will share additional information as it becomes available.
